Winter weather is unpredictable, but Environment Canada is so sure this will be a big one, that it's issued a winter storm warning.
Hazardous winter conditions are expected as an impactful winter storm hits this afternoon into Wednesday.
Expect 15 to 30 cm of snow, poor visibility and hazardous travel conditions in areas of heavy snow and blowing snow.
Heavy snowfall and blowing snow associated with this major winter storm are expected to begin affecting northeastern Ontario today, with the worst conditions expected tonight into Wednesday morning.
Northeast winds gusting up to 60 km/h will result in areas of blowing snow giving poor visibility at times. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.
A winter storm warning is in effect for:
- North Bay - West Nipissing
- Powassan - Mattawa
- South River - Burk's Falls - Bayfield Inlet
- Sudbury
- Kirkland Lake - Temiskaming Shores - Temagami
- Hubtsville - Baysville
