Governor General David Johnston finished off a busy day in North Bay at a dinner at the new Grande Event Centre located at the former Zoo Nightclub location on Main Street.
Close to 200 guests packed the new event centre to hear the Governor General praise the city and its people.
“Here are some of my top three takeaways after spending one day in North Bay,” Johnston stated.
“One, the city is diverse and full of caring, energetic people who want to make a difference.
“Two, the city is smart and home to some cutting edge institutions and initiatives in health, education and the military,” he added, pointing out that the city is very healthy with institutions such as Nipissing University and Canadore College.
“Three, the city is unique in its history, its geography and its people, and it has something unique to offer Canada. Sometimes, taking a fresh look at our surroundings can help us locate untapped reservoirs of creativity. Time and again in my life, I’ve seen this process in action.”
Johnston made a private visit to the 22 Wing North Bay and the Canadian Air Defence Sector. Then Johnston traveled to Nipissing University later in the morning for a Aboriginal education discussion.
Next, the Governor General interacted with Francophone students and praised their anti-bullying message at Heritage Public School.
His wife Sharon made two separate visits as she traveled to the North Bay Regional Health Centre and One Kids place and finished her day with a visit to the Indian Friendship Centre.
