The Trout Creek Fall Fair is back this weekend, with horse shows, exhibits, vendors, and lots of fun for the family

Summer slips by fast, and one of the region’s first harbingers of the changing seasons is the Trout Creek Fall Fair, which returns this August 24th – 25th weekend. It looks like Mother Nature will be smiling on Trout Creek as well, with weather in the mid-20s and plenty of sun to go around. No rain in sight.

The event kicks off with a parade – the Parade of Bling, this year – which begins on Morrison Street, turns onto McKenzie, and rolls down Main Street to the Trout Creek Community Centre. Participants have been encouraged to add “fancy details” to their floats and costumes – hence the “bling” – and there are prizes for best decorated tractor, car, best dressed rider, and many other categories.

The parade starts at 11 a.m., so be sure to get a good viewing spot.

The horse show is always a big draw to the event, and on both Saturday and Sunday the Trout Creek Fairgrounds at 181 Main Street will be the place to be. With Champion Buckles and awards to be won, the event attracts many riders, with categories for youth and adults.

“All levels of riders are encouraged and welcomed” to participate, organizers noted on the event’s website.

There will be vendors, and there will be music, with Back in Tyme playing on Saturday and the Powassan Jammers picking away on Sunday. There will be other bands taking the stage throughout Saturday as well, with free parking on both days and a beer garden on Saturday.

On Saturday, the gates open at 7 a.m., and there’s a Light Horse Show at 8 a.m. in the Horse Ring. There are exhibits all day at the Arena, and a penny sale. Face painting, vendors, bale tossing, a baby show, all take place Saturday, complete with a spaghetti supper and talent show upstairs in the arena at 5 p.m.

As for that baby show, it’s a long-standing tradition at the Trout Creek Fall Fair. There are prizes for each baby entered, and parents fill in a few questions via a form, which organizers read to the people. Questions like can the baby walk, can she eat on her own, how much does she weigh, and queries of that note. It’s a fun (and very cute) way to celebrate the newest members of the community.

On Sunday, the festivities continue with a pancake breakfast at 7:30 upstairs at the arena, a light horse show, at 8 a.m. and many other family friendly events.

For the full schedule, have a look at the event’s website at troutcreekfallfair.com. Admission is by donation, and it’s probably wise to have some cash on hand for the vendors. Those preserves are tempting indeed.
