Organizers of the Temagami Canoe Festival have postponed this year’s festivities which take place this coming weekend.
“Temagami Canoe Festival organizers, in council with representatives of the Municipality of Temagami and Ontario Parks, determined late this afternoon to postpone the outdoor portion of the Temagami Canoe Festival until further notice,” stated Carolyn Laronde, the Project Coordinator, in a release.
“The festival is postponed due to the Evacuation Alert in the Municipality of Temagami and continuing fire conditions in the region. Temagami’s largest campground Finlayson Point Provincial Park is not forecasted to open by the weekend. “
However, the Deepwater Music Showcase can, however, proceed as planned inside the Temagami Welcome Centre Bunny Miller Theatre.
“The performers look forward to entertaining and providing some comforting support at this tough time,” continued Laronde.
This morning MNRF officials stated the fire in question has been considered being held by fire crews.
“Being held indicates that with currently committed resources, sufficient suppression action has been taken so that the fire is not likely to spread beyond existent or predetermined control boundaries under prevailing or forecasted conditions,” stated MNFR Forest Fire Information spokesperson Isabelle Chenard in a release Tuesday morning.
