"Periods are a fact of life," says Katina Matheson, the Community Coordinator for United Way.

"For women living in poverty, there is an added challenge of acquiring monthly feminine hygiene products. For women who are experiencing homelessness, it is an even bigger challenge," she says matter of factly.

That's why a “Tampon Tuesday” event planned for Tuesday, March 7 at Cecil’s on Main St.

The event is hosted by United Way with all product being donated to the North Bay Food Bank and the Nipissing Transition House.

Community members are invited to come out for a social evening of fun and learning, says a news release from the group.

Representatives from community agencies will be there to talk about the challenges that women living in poverty face in our community.

You are asked to bring one unopened box of feminine hygiene products, or engage your workplace to make a larger donation!

“We want to ensure that all women have access to these needed products. This event is about empowering women, bringing the community together, helping each other out and just having an opportunity to learn and socialize together, in a relaxed and inclusive environment” says Matheson.
