The City of North Bay will be offering a free one-day program from the Lifesaving Society called Swim to Survive, on Sunday, July 23rd from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Birchaven Cove on the Trout Lake.

The Swim to Survive program tests the essentials needed to survive an unexpected fall into deep water- an important first step to being safe around water. Swimming is the second most popular activity for children between the ages of five and twelve and these are important skills for them to learn. It is important to know that Swim to Survive does not replace swim lessons.

Officials say Swim to Survive will teach children between the ages of 6 to 14 how to roll into the water, tread water for one minute and then swim 50 meters. At the end they will receive a certificate stating they completed the Swim to Survive program. Additional activities include lifejacket use and boat safety registration for this program is not required; simply show up and go to the lifeguard chair.
