THUNDER BAY, Ont. — A Sioux Lookout man pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a court order and is suspended from any method of fishing in Ontario until September 23, 2027.

This after the court heard on April 28, 2024, conservation officers observed Robert Whalen actively angling on the Jackpine River in the township of Patience, which was in violation of a court order prohibiting him from fishing in Ontario.

Justice of the Peace Nancy Tulloch heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Thunder Bay, on September 23, 2024, and ruled Whalen is prohibited from being in possession of any fishing-related equipment on, in or within 30 metres of any Ontario waters, and from having any association with any person engaged in any method of fishing in Ontario for a period of two years. Whalen was also fined $6,600 and must see a probation officer.

The Ontario government says it is safeguarding fish by ensuring fishing regulations and suspensions are followed.
