Summer in the Park Saturday fun!

There was a dark blue grey cloud over Summer in the Park late Saturday afternoon but it blew over just in time for the music acts to begin under clear skies.

As it turned out, the whole of Saturday was great weather for people to enjoy the many events around the waterfront and downtown North Bay.

Part of the managing committee of Summer in the Park, Patti Alcorn-Carr says the vendors are doing great with the weather holding up.  Alcorn-Carr added they sold well over 5000 wristbands and they continue to sell. She says last night’s country line-up turned out great after a storm. “Michelle Wright started at 12 after Johnny Reid and signed autographs at 1 am. She didn’t have to do that. She was so awesome.”

Many fans credited Johnny Reid for starting to sing in the rain. Caroline Parnell gushed about the singer. “He was fantastic! A party waiting to happen! He took off his shoes and went barefoot on stage because it was soaked and easier to keep a grip barefoot! He was a lot of fun and sang all of my favorites along with a couple new songs coming out on his new CD this fall. ”

Derek Shogren was working the grounds by the Discovery Museum. Shogren is a committee member of Summer in the Park as a North Bay councillor. He chaired the event for five years. “I think when Meatloaf was cancelled he was home before I was. Those country stars are awesome for singing a little later. Today was great and I’m looking forward to tomorrow. Volleyball is in full swing, but first, we rock and roll tonight. “
