The coronavirus crisis is hitting businesses hard, but none harder than the restaurants and bars that have been forced to close, relying only on drive-through and delivery to stay afloat.
Business is struggling, but even this environment is seeing acts of kindness for the good of all.
Marie Woods told BayToday that she is the mother of three small children, a daughter aged10, and 9-year-old twin boys. She works as a server at a local restaurant.
"This is exactly why I support local, small businesses and will continue to do so," she says.
"This morning we all woke up to the State of Emergency news and, being a server, I panicked. I cried. I was so stressed thinking of how I could continue being a sole support parent of three with an upcoming move in three days. I cried more in a short time than I have in a while.
"These three rely on me, and me alone, and without a job, I was freaking out thinking of how this would still work.
"This right here is how.
"I talked to my boss this morning about my concerns. Not only did he ensure that I could still get some hours by cleaning while taking take-out and delivery orders, but I could also minimize my child care costs by bringing my kids to work with me.
"So here we are, hanging out at my work. We have Lego, puzzles, colouring books, craft supplies, bicycles in the parking lot so they can go for rides, and cartoons on the TV while I sanitize the restaurant from top to bottom and take phone calls.
"This is why we all should support local.
"I am not just a number and I don't get treated like that.
"My family is treated like we matter while the world is coming to a halt. I will forever be thankful for the local and small business owners who show compassion for their employees and their families and I am so beyond proud to be where I am."
And despite her own situation, she wants to pay it forward by putting her words into action.
"During this time of fear and panic many people are staying home and those most vulnerable in our community are lacking things they need. We are offering free grocery delivery services to those who are indoors due to fear because of health/age. I legit want nothing in return except the opportunity to teach my kids a valuable lesson....that in times of need we should work together as a community and avoid being selfish."

Downtown North Bay Board Chair Michelle Trudeau has added her voice.
"We have already heard from service providers and retailers who have indicated they have stepped up the measures they are taking, and adapting some of their services. For example, some retailers are able to take an order for merchandise by phone and drop it off to your vehicle.
"We encourage people to take care of themselves, and to monitor reputable and verified news sources for any new advice and best practices. We hope that as much as possible, our community will consider supporting small businesses and shop locally since small businesses are such a big part of the overall economic engine that drives our local economy."
She advises customers consider calling ahead to order by phone, or ask what measures a business is taking.
"Please support local and downtown as much as you can, and keep safety for yourself and others top of mind. And know that we will all get through this together."
