A fundraiser called the Start to Smart Back to School has raised $5,300 to buy local school supplies.
Local Staples GM Pat Lynch and Kiwanis Club of North Eastern Ontario President-Elect Ralph Celentano presented four area school boards plus Nipissing First Nation Nbissing Secondary School the shared proceeds from community donations during the drive. All five boards will receive $1,060 each to buy school supplies.
The cheques were handed out yesterday afternoon at Staples on Algonquin Avenue.
This KC North Eastern Ontario organization is a newly formed Kiwanis International Internet club that serves children across the northeast with members living in North Bay, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie.
The 2020 Start to Smart Back to School drive occurred from 17 July through to 28 September and this year Staples Canada partnered with Kiwanis Clubs from all across Ontario and Western Canada.
In this Staples Central Ontario District, customers who donated to the daily campaign were in the top four for contributions behind Collingwood, Bolton and Aurora stores. Across Ontario, over $514,000 was raised for children back to school activities and initiatives which will be distributed by 77 Kiwanis Clubs who were actively involved during this challenging year of raising community funds.
Cash donations from Staples North Bay customers were collected by Kiwanis and Staples between July 17 to September 28 at the Algonquin Ave location.
