St. Joseph Scollard Hall grad wins $50,000 grant

 A former student at St. Joseph Scollard Hall, Dr. Benjamin de Jourdan, is the winner of the Star Mentor of the Year award and the $50,000 that goes with it.

The honour was established to recognize those who have shown an exemplary job of training the next generation of researchers in New Brunswick universities, colleges, and research institutions.

De Jourdan is a research scientist who has recently worked on large scale natural resource damage assessments, and now serves as study director on aquatic toxicity studies. He works at the Huntsman Marine Science Centre, in St. Andrews, New Brunswick.

His parents, Dave and Maureen de Jordan still live in North Bay.

He received his doctorate from the University of Guelph where he studied the environmental fate and toxicity of emerging contaminants. Dr. de Jourdan’s expertise is in understanding the behavior and impact of chemicals in the environment.
