The Snowmobile season officially started on Friday when the North Bay Snowmobile Club made the announcement, but Carlson’s Sports CEO Dan Carlson says the snowmobile business has been revved up since the fall.
“We set a record for snowmobile sales in November and I’d say a lot of that has to do with the weather,” said Carlson, noting the early snowfall the North Bay area received in November.
Carlson says the long winter last year has also helped pique the snowmobile business.
“Last season the snowmobile season didn’t end, some people were sledding until April,” said Carlson, who is an Arctic Cat and Yamaha snowmobile dealer.
“Plus, the last 2 years have been good snowmobile seasons.”
He says business has been so good that his inventory is low.
“So many people were selling and trading in sleds 3 or 4 years ago,” said Carlson.
“In 2003, we didn’t sell a single sled that didn’t have a trade coming back. The market was saturated. Now our used inventory is next to nothing and we are begging for trade-ins which is great for the industry.”
