A snow shovel will come in handy today.

It might be a snow Wednesday, as Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for the area.

Lake effect snow squalls are expected today and tonight with locally heavy snowfall and accumulations 10 to 25 cm. There will be poor visibility at times in heavy snow and local blowing snow.

The squalls will continue through this evening.

The lake effect snow squalls are coming off Georgian Bay as a low-pressure system moves across northern Ontario, enhancing snowfall. These snow squalls will shift south of the area tonight.

Snow squall warnings are in effect for:

  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • Sudbury
  • South river - Burk's Falls
  • Temiskaming Shores - Temagami
  • Parry Sound
  • West Nipissing - French River

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations. Road closures are possible.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
