The snow may be here, but unfortunately for snowmobile enthusiasts that still does not mean the local snowmobile trails are open yet.
Shawn Flindall, communications director for the North Bay Snowmobile Club, likes the snow, but now it's all about cold weather.
"The snow will help but we really need the cold weather to kick in," said Flindall.
"We are really struggling with the swamps, some creeks, and some rivers. Until we can get these things packed and frozen we can't open trails. So groomers are working and trying to make all that happen but it is a slow go in these temperatures."
Flindall notes that snowmobile trails are starting to open across the province
"There are some trails open in Sault Ste. Marie, some in Sudbury and some in Stonecliffe," said Flindall.
"We are really hoping to have some trails open in the next week or two but, at this point, it is deceiving and we just need people to be patient, cautious, and watch the online maps and be patient."
Flindall says sledders need to also be very cautious around area waterways.
"Lakes are still pretty sketchy, I know lakes look good at this point but Trout Lake just skimmed over on the weekend so there is not very much ice out on Trout Lake and I know Lake Nipissing is also very inconsistent so we really need people to just be very safe out there and be careful," he said.
