After recent rainfall and dedication of FireRanger crews, North Bay 5 is being held. With forecasted conditions and continued suppression efforts, we do not anticipate this fire to grow beyond its current boundaries.

There are no new wildfires in Ontario's Northeast Region as of late afternoon Monday.

Two wildland fires remain active in the region, including North Bay 5, about three kilometres southeast of Cobalt.

In a news release, Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services says crews are making "significant progress" thanks to recent precipitation and that fire is now being held.

"With forecasted conditions and continued suppression efforts, we do not anticipate this fire to grow beyond its current boundaries," added the Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry in a social media post.

The fire hazard is low to moderate across the Northeast Region.

Help fight forest fires: Stay clear of waterbombers!

When waterbombers approach a body of water, move close to the shore so they can perform their scoop safely. A waterbomber will not scoop from a lake or river if encroaching watercraft pose a safety hazard. Be safe, stay clear of waterbombers.
