Royalty of a different sort will be visiting North Bay next week as guests at the Fit For a Queen gala.

Rosie, Noodle, and Lulu are among the seven female monarchs that will be on display at the event, which is being held Sept. 29 at the Clarion Resort Pinewood Park.

The queens are actually life-sized wild-looking sovereigns produced by seven North Bay artists for the women-only soiree, organized to raise money for the local Red Cross office.

Rosie, with her weirdly pointed crown, huge eyes and overly collagenated lips, has been dubbed the Queen of Passion by her creators, Linda Wilson and Lynn Compton.

The painting partners also produced the blue-skinned, alien faced Noodle, AKA the Music Queen and the soon to be complete Lulu, dubbed the Queen Bee.

Nancy Dewar Stenning created the Ice Queen, Sherry Glass the Queen of the Nile, Joan and Barry Burniston the Red Hat Queen and Chris Bourdon the Warrior Queen.

“It was Nancy’s idea to do the queens,” said Wilson, one of the event’s coordinators.

“So we started with the concept and just went from there, using a variety of mediums.”

The queens will be sold or auctioned as part of the $50 per-ticket fundraiser, Wilson said, with the proceeds going to the Red Cross.

Wilson also said the event includes dinner, a pamper palace, where guests can enter for a manicure or a massage, auctions, music, dance and a fashion show.

Tickets are available by calling Red Cross community services coordinator Heather Ward at 472-5760.
