Who and What is Al Going to Save Next?

“It is truly amazing to me that the Conservative candidate is now going to save NORAD after largely claiming credit for saving the Air Base and the ONR” said Anthony Rota, Liberal Candidate for Nipissing-Timiskaming.

“It is incredible to me that McDonald would profess to be the saviour of NORAD, even though NORAD does not require saving. It is disturbing to me that the Conservatives are prepared to make all sorts of deals with the Americans without even knowing exactly what the Americans want” said Rota.

Rota also stated “the Canadian Government at this moment is involved in serious discussions with the USA regarding North American Missile Defense. It is our government’s job to get all the facts and then make a decision that is in the best interest of our country”.

“As Canadians we recognize that the USA is our closest ally and friend. As Liberals we will continue to maintain an independent foreign policy. It was Harper, supported by the Al MacDonald’s of this world who wanted us to go to war in Iraq. I am proud that a Liberal Prime Minister made the decision not to enter that war even though he was under tremendous pressure from the US and Stephen Harper” added Rota.

Rota concluded by stating, “It was a Liberal Government which established the Air Base in North Bay and it was a Liberal Government which took Canada into NORAD. It was our Liberal MP, Bob Wood and not Al McDonald who got a 20-year agreement to keep the base in North Bay. North Bay will continue to play an important role in NORAD”.
