The Nipissing Chapter of ‘Motorcycle Ride For DAD’ is set to let the rubber hit the road again following the official launch of the 2nd Annual Ride For Dad event this past Saturday at Northgate Shopping Centre.

The fundraising ride, which takes place Saturday, June 13th, offers motorcycle enthusiasts from the area an opportunity to participate in a great ride all the while making a difference in the fight against prostate cancer.

Last year the inaugural ride was a huge success and officials say they want to build on that by recruiting more people to get involved with the ’09 ride.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men.

In 2008, they estimate that 24,700 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and 4,300 will die of it. Officials say on average 475 men will be diagnosed every week, and that 83 Canadian men will die of prostate cancer every week.

According to the local Motorcycle Ride For DAD webpage an estimated one million men with prostate cancer in Canada and Most do NOT know they have it. In fact, it is rumoured that only 20% have been diagnosed and are being treated. The remaining 800,000 live with a time bomb ticking in their body.

Monies raised through the ride will remain here in the community.
