Hundreds gathered in Memorial Park to observe the annual Remembrance Day ceremony. The weather was mild and the rain held off long enough to keep participants and observers dry through the speeches and traditions.
22 Wing Commander Colonel Richard Jolette and the Wing's Chief Warrant Officer Didier Pignatel spoke following the ceremony about the continuing significance of Remembrance Day.
The two were especially impressed by all the young faces in the crowd and noted the importance of passing on to younger generations a continued respect for active military members and veterans for their contributions and sacrifices to keep Canada safe.
"Whether overseas or at home, there will always be a role for the Canadian Armed Forces to support Canada and Canadians," said Jolette.
Jolette and Pignatel shared that they had visited Alliance Public School on Thursday and were received "like superheroes."
"It was interesting how engaged they were — they had their hands up to ask us questions. Our presence, to tell the story, to share what the Canadian Armed Forces are all about, helps us remind them why we remember them."
