Halloween is creeping up, and some regional libraries are hosting a costume exchange to prepare for the day / File photo

The Callander, East Ferris, Bonfield, and Powassan Libraries are teaming up for a spooktacular Halloween season, offering a costume exchange for all the little ghosts and ghouls.

Melissa Sones, the CEO of the Callander Public Library describes this team effort as “the ultimate Halloween Costume Swap,” and she would know, having held a costume swap at her branch for years now.

Here’s how it works. You can bring your child’s old Halloween costume to a branch – during the specified days – and exchange it for another. So, if your kid has outgrown his costume, or Little Sara can’t tolerate being Wednesday Addams for another season, it’s time to head to the library and see what’s available.

It’s free to take part, and if you don’t have a costume to swap, but still need one, “no worries,” Sones emphasized, “you are welcome to pick something out too!”

The costume swap is “a great opportunity to save some money and reduce your environmental footprint,” Sones added.

So, mark these dates for this costume bounty.

Callander, your costume swapping begins (and ends) on Tuesday, October 1st. That’s right, it’s a one-day event which runs from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Costumes can be donated / dropped off at the library until 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The library is located at 30 Catherine Street, in Callander.

Note that any costume not taken at the Callander Swap will be given to another participating library, “nothing is ever wasted,” Sones emphasized.

The East Ferris and Bonfield libraries are going all in, hosting a full month-long costume swap from October 1st to October 31st, because as Sones said, “one day just isn’t enough for our Halloween spirit!”  The East Ferris Public Library is at 1257 Village Rd, Astorville, and you can find the Bonfield Public Library at 365 ON-531.

The Powassan Public Library at 324 Clarke Street, is taking part from October 16th to 31st.

Costumes for all ages are accepted, and everyone is welcome at all locations. Sones noted that if you can’t make the event at your home library, don’t be shy to visit another location to take part in the costume swap, there’s no membership required.
