The ReCycle Bikes Program continues to roll along and is now expanding to collect bikes of all sizes.

Through the first phase of the program this year more than 40 bikes have been donated to the program, tuned up by volunteers and given to essential workers in need of transportation through these challenging times.

Discovery Routes wishes to thank all those who have donated a bike to the program so far and the amazing volunteers that have worked on the bikes from their home-based workshops ensuring the bikes can roll safely along North Bay’s streets and trails.

The program is now accepting bikes of any size and in good condition. Following recommendations of health officials, donated bicycles will now be received by curbside drop-off. If you have a bike to donate please contact [email protected] to arrange a drop-off time.

Cash donations are also accepted to support the ReCycle Bikes Program and can be made through the website at discoveryroutes.ca/recycle-bikes.

Charitable receipts will be issued in the amount of $25 for bicycle donations and for cash donations of $15 or greater.

Meantime, anyone in need of a bike is invited to contact [email protected].

"Please be aware that it is a donation-based program and therefore there are no guarantees that a suitable bike will be available," the release stated.

Discovery Routes Trails Organization has been coordinating the ReCycle Bikes Program since 2015.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the public who have donated bikes and an incredible team of dedicated volunteers, over 300 bikes have been redistributed in North Bay over the years.

The program’s impact is broad-reaching, from giving youth the opportunity to ride and showing them the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle, to providing reliable transportation options to those in need and diverting waste from the local landfill. The growing network of volunteers made up of both experienced and new bike mechanics help to create an environment where mentors help to ensure the programs future success.
