A recreational management plan for Talon Lake and the Talon Shutes came one step closer to reality today following a visit to the area by Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay.

The minister was asked to come to the area by Nipissing MPP Monique Smith at the behest of the Lake Talon Conservation Association, a group of 200 cottagers which has been stewarding the waters.

Blake Levenick, of Lakeshore, Ont., died at 13 after being caught in the Talon Chutes Aug. 2.

That, said John Kelsall, president of conservation association, "was what made the politicians take notice."

Ramsay, who took three hours out of his day today to for a boat tour of the system, will hold a series of meetings this fall or winter with the association plus members of Parks Ontario and the Ontario Provincial Police.

"He is seized with the matter," Kelsall said, and he was telling his senior staff that they will organize a series of planning meetings with us this fall and other stakholders to put together a proper management plan."
BayToday.ca will have more on this story later tonight.
