A North Bay family is trying to cope with a tragedy.
Miranda Pauline Thornton, 26, passed away suddenly on Sunday. She was 38 weeks pregnant.
An emergency c-section was performed and the baby, named Rosie, was flown to CHEO in Ottawa where the premature baby is fighting for her life.
Lise Hughson is the cousin of Brandon Minor, the father of Rosie.
“He is worried, he has a seven-year-old son (with Miranda from a previous relationship), his young daughter is in hospital in Ottawa,” she told BayToday.ca Tuesday afternoon, noting the couple also has a 21-month old child as well.
“When your world has never been turned upside down, you don’t know how to deal with it.”
But Hughson is trying to help her cousin’s family as she has started a GoFundMe page in hopes of creating an education fund in Miranda’s memory.
“My cousin is young, you don’t think about stuff like that,” stated Hughson.
“I started to do a GoFundme, which is going very well but I thought I would go a step further,” she said.
She says on top of the online donations, pink donation boxes will be set up in various locations in North Bay, Mattawa, and other surrounding areas.
A total of $3,535 has been raised as of publication time.
