Powder from 'suspicious parcel' harmless says Canada Post

That hazmat scare at the Ferguson St. post office this morning has turned out not to be dangerous.

"There was an unknown substance identified this morning at our North Bay facility on Worthington Street East," says ​Phil Legault, 

Media relations with Canada Post.

"Authorities were called to investigate. The substance was determined not to be harmful and employees returned inside shortly after 10 a.m."

Legault told BayToday that Canada Post takes the safety and security of our employees, customers and mail very seriously and their internal safety and security procedures were followed.

A source told BayToday that a postal worker was handling a parcel in the processing centre when it was dropped and an unknown white powdery substance was emitted.

The fire department was called and the first floor office was evacuated.
