A news release from Nipissing says the individual lives off-campus but was in the Robert J. Surtees Athletics Centre Friday, November 13.
"The individual is self-isolating and all contact tracing is being managed by public health. Anyone who may have been in close contact with the individual will be contacted directly," says a release.
"The individual notified the university quickly after testing positive. As a result, the Robert J. Surtees Athletics Centre will be closed effective November 18, to complete an extensive deep cleaning. Additional caretaking staff will be allocated to perform the cleaning of all high touch areas, equipment, and all spaces potentially accessed."
Nipissing University has developed comprehensive protocols for any reported confirmed case of COVID-19.
Nipissing University provides information about positive cases on campus on the Positive Cases on Campus website. The Positive Cases on Campus website is updated daily, Monday to Friday. Cases reported on this page are considered closed after 14 days.
Nipissing University has implemented a number of measures to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 on campus and in the community including delivering classes online, limiting access to campus, screening visitors, and thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing campus buildings on a daily basis. Individuals attending campus must wear a face covering and maintain physical distancing.

Just five days after Canadore reported a positive COVID case, Nipissing University now has a case.
On Nov. 13 Canadore College reported its first positive COVID-19 test.

This morning, the local Health Unit confirmed a member of the Nipissing University community has tested positive for COVID-19.
"Close contact tracing is underway and individuals who are deemed at high risk will be contacted by the Health Unit," says a news release.
People who are not contacted are not considered at high risk.
The Health Unit did not disclose the age range of the patient, nor the sex. It also did not report if the victim is a student or a member of staff.
"Should our investigation and contact tracing identify an increased risk to members of the community beyond those identified as close contacts, the public will be notified. The individual is currently self-isolating."
“Our staff are working with Nipissing University to provide important public health direction,” said Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health. “We remind the public that we must continue to work together to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by following public health measures and limiting social activities and travel outside the district.”
Meanwhile, the Health Unit says no cases of the flu have been reported locally.
