Popular Powassan Maple Syrup Festival returns

The festival featured more than 100 vendors giving onlookers plenty to choose from

The rain didn’t keep people from attending Powassan’s Maple Syrup Festival.  The Pipe band marched dignitaries into the downtown as thousands of people celebrated the festival’s return after being sidelined for three years because of the pandemic.

Powassan Mayor Peter McIsaac welcomed the public back to the local Maple Syrup festival during the official opening ceremony.

Chisholm town councillor Nunzio Scarfone’s showed off the winning style in the Pancake toss that featured municipal council members from surrounding communities taking part in a friendly competition.  Scarfone dethroned Powassan Mayor Peter McIsaac as Pancake Toss champion.

The Gibbings Family Band entertained the public, one of several that played at the festival.

The Great Canadian Lumberjack Show was back and locals Andy Straughan of Trout Creek and Ryan Boesche of North Bay took justseconds to cut the log with the crosscut saw.
