Councillor Mike Anthony passed away this afternoon BayToday has confirmed.
The veteran of municipal politics died at home around 5 p.m. He was just 52.
Mike was the longest-serving sitting councillor in North Bay, elected for the first time in 2001. He was serving his sixth term and well-known for keeping a close eye on the taxpayer's dollar.
Mike Anthony was actually his radio name, his real name was Michael Anthony Gaidamasciuk. He has used "Mike Anthony" since 1991 when he began work on-air in radio broadcasting. He has a long background in communications.
He was a radio newsman at CFCH, CKAT and CHUR to start his career, then got into politics. He also was a writer for BayToday.
Mike was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia and moved to Moncton, New Brunswick when he was nine, but loved North Bay and the people he served as a politician. He moved here in 1991.
For the last several years has worked as an Account Manager in marketing with Sofa Communications.
He is married to Tanya and has a step-daughter named Brittany from a previous marriage.
The two lived in a 100-year-old home in the Pinewood area, and when not busy with the council and his day job, he enjoyed books, movies, and spending time with the family pets, Dax the Dachshund and Walter White the Black Cat.
