Pop rocker Saturday headliner for Summer in the Park (UPDATED)

'We’re very pleased to have iconic Canadian female rocker,  Amanda Marshall, performing in this year’s festival lineup'

Canadian Pop Star Amanda Marshall will be making her return to North Bay as the lead performer on Saturday night at the Summer in the Park Festival on August 5th.

The news came at a Summer in the Park press conference at the Capitol Centre on Monday morning.   Marshall will be joined on stage Saturday by the Canadian alternative rock band “The Head Stones,” along with local performer the DARENOTS and  Ottawa pop solo artist Michelle Treacy.

Much like Friday headliner Mariana's Trench, Marshall has also been at the event before.

“To have someone like Amanda Marshall is incredible, she’s been around for a long time but she’s solid, she’s well known. She’s going to add that different element to the festival,” said Charles Elliot, Summer in the Park Committee spokesman.

Amanda Marshall has released three studio albums, the first was certified Diamond in Canada, with the latter two certified 3x Platinum and Platinum respectively.  She is best known for her 1996 single, “Birmingham” which reached number 3 in Canada.

Her debut album Amanda Marshall was released in 1995, becoming  a major success in Canada, generating a great deal of airplay and spawning six Top 40 hits -- "Let It Rain", "Beautiful Goodbye", "Dark Horse", "Fall From Grace", "Sitting on Top of the World", and "Birmingham", her most successful hit in Canada and the only song to reach the US charts.

Elliot says the committee is excited about the 2017 lineup but he admits it’s challenging to get these acts on board.

“I think some people think it should be easy to pick who you want to come out but there are a lot of other factors, it is very competitive, timing is competitive too, how many dollars you have to work to bring it in and you have to be responsible with your budget too,” said Elliot.

“North Bay has a good name behind it and known as a reputable festival and the outdoors part and the artists really love the scenery and beauty of North Bay and to be able to play in that kind of venue, it really gets them excited about doing that."

Wrist bands are $35 including HST until July 1st and covers the cost of the entire festival weekend.
