Police were called to pull two people safely from a sinking pleasure boat in Latchford over the weekend.
On Saturday, shortly before 8:30 p.m. Temiskaming OPP) and the District Emergency Medical Service responded to a call of a boat that was sinking in Bay Lake.
Investigation showed that two boaters were on a vessel in the middle of the lake when it started to fill with water and quickly became submerged.
The two ended up in the frigid water.
The couple was attended to by nearby civilians until officers from the OPP Marine Unit arrived and escorted them safely back to shore where they were taken by ambulance to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
"The statistics show that 98 per cent of drowning victims were not wearing some type of floatation device," says Constable Jennifer Smith. "The OPP reminds all operators and passengers to carry an approved lifesaving device in your vessel or pleasure craft for each person on board."
