Police arrest a suspect with a replica assault rifle

On Sunday morning police received a 9-1-1 call from a witness who claimed to see a man putting a machine gun into a car in North Bay.

Police say the accused was observed getting into a car outside a motel on Lakeshore Drive with what was described as a machine gun on Sunday morning around 7:30 a.m.

As this information was being relayed to the North Bay Police for dispatch an Ontario Provincial Police officer, who was driving through the area, attempted a traffic stop due to erratic driving by the accused.

Police say the accused refused to stop for the officer and fled southbound on Lakeshore Drive.

The accused was located a short time later as he returned to the motel on Lakeshore Drive and he was subsequently arrested by police.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of an airsoft (BB) gun, similar in appearance to a military assault rifle.

Jason Miksovsky, age 35, of No Fixed Address who is charged with:

  • One count of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle;
  • One count of Flight from Police;
  • One count of Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace; and
  • One Count of Breach of Probation

Miksovsky also faces 5 additional Provincial Offences charges related to driving infractions.

The accused has been held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse on September 30th, 2019.
