Poem: Getting Old, a journey

Every step taken can be a struggle now,, as knees ache with pain, once never so

Getting old, a journey

Once quick as a whip, my thoughts lag on,
the older I get the more difficult it seems,
to remember what was once a precious thing.

Waking up each morning my eyes sparkle intermittently,
as it takes several minutes for my first step of the day.
My body is feeling the passing of time horribly
with aches and sores to worry about each day.

Has my warranty lapsed, my soul cries out,
as each part of my body  reacts differently,
with hope for an easier life diminishingly.

Every step taken can be a struggle now,
as knees ache with pain, once never so.
Joints, neck and hands ache just as much.
Oh God am I failing in my twilight years?

So many medical issues plague my mind,
as I look to my love ones passing of time.
Is this what we hoped for so long ago it seems,
to age and enjoy life most definitely.

Remembering the wisdom of a Monty Python glee,
"for life is quite absurd, and deaths the final word,
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin and give the audience a grin
Enjoy it -for it's the last chance you'll have anyhow".
