Expect intermittent traffic delays on the Lakeshore Drive overpass tonight September 8, between 9 p.m. and midnight.
It's due to do some 'jacking' of the bridge deck for substructure repairs.
Mike Hoffman, project inspector told BayToday that 16 100 tonne hydraulic jacks will raise the overpass about 12 mm or half an inch. It will be closed to traffic so they don't get any bounce on the bridge as its being raised.
"There are 16 jacks that are placed underneath the south abutment, all hooked up in series so they all jack at the same time.
"We're going to jack it up in small increments of 5mm at a time. It should take about 10 minutes per load then we can let the traffic go. We're going to replace the bearing seats underneath the girders. The bearing seats allow the bridge to move in unison with expansion and contraction."
Traffic is expected to be delayed up to 10 minutes per occurrence. Traffic is encouraged to use an alternate route during this time to avoid a delay.
