Youth are invited for a free haircut at Outloud but must pre-register by email (see body of article).

Going back to school is unavoidable. Why not do it in style?

For the fifth time in late summer, Outloud North Bay will open its doors to assist youth in the community and everyone is welcome.

The past two years have each seen nearly 200 young people receive haircuts at Outloud.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. the organization hosts its annual free back-to-school haircut event. Local hairdressers will again donate their time by offering free haircuts only — no elaborate hairstyles so that everyone gets a turn. The event is open to all youth but both space and time are limited. As such, youth will receive free professional yet basic back-to-school cuts and trims. Due to high demand, there will not be time for wash/dry/colour or fancy styles.

"This is a free event. All are welcome. Membership is not required. If you want to leave a donation, we won't stop you. All funds will go towards supporting our programming," according to Outloud.

Membership to the youth safe space is not required to get a haircut but pre-registration is. Outloud is located in the former Summit Night Club at the Voyager Inn, 123 Delaware Ave.  To book your time slot please email [email protected].

"We try to support everyone who needs it," is the mantra of Outloud and its founder Seth Compton. "We have a lot of kids from low-income families in our community so we try to do what we can to support them. We also have back-to-school backpacks and we've been collecting school supplies for those."
