When Peter Minogue set out to build a golf course in Callander, he had a vision in mind that included giving back to the community. Nineteen years ago, the former President of Osprey Links Golf Course, hosted the first 'Osprey Links Charity Golf Gala'. Over the course of nearly two decades, the tournament has raised a half-million dollars for a variety of causes, including three years donating to One Kids Place Children's Treatment Centre.

Last December, Minogue suddenly passed away, but his legacy lives on.

On Wednesday, 148 golfers teed it up at the 19th annual Charity Golf Gala presented by Bell "Let's Talk" at Osprey Links.

Honourary tournament  Co-Chairs, former Premier Mike Harris and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli, along with Minogue's son Brad, thanked the golfers and sponsors for continuing the tradition.

Harris, a close personal friend of Minogues has supported the gala as chair and co-chair since day one.

"This was an easy yes in this case because we set out to support various charities in the area from children's charities to the hospital. I couldn't say no to Peter at the best of times, but this was pretty easy," said Harris." He had a vision and I'm proud to be associated with the various charities we've supported, particularly this year with the North Bay hospital. Its also about 'friendraising' and making people aware of the cause. Vic and I are now carrying on the tradition. We remember Peter very fondly of course at times like this."

Money raised from this year's Gala is in support of the Child Adolescent Mental Health Unit at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.

Tammy Morison,  President, and CEO of the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation explains.

"We have a six-bed unit where we provide specialized mental health treatment for youth up to the age of 18. They come mostly from out district and into Muskoka as well. These funds are used for things like renovations that took place for relocating this program from Sudbury. The whole philosophy around that is to provide access to care closer to home for these children."

Which Morison says is beneficial to both patient and family members.

"Having families near their children, offering support when they're undergoing care, can have a huge impact on them."

Bell's Client Executive for Northern Ontario, Joanne Harris Burton says Bell is proud to once again, be a title sponsor for this event.

"We have been here for a number of years. It is a great cause. The Bell Let's Talk program helps organizations in communities right across Ontario. It is to benefit mental health programs and supports for adults, children, and adolescents," said Harris Burton.

Wednesday's tournament raised over $30,000.
