OPP stop speeder in Powassan. Seize drugs and a loaded handgun

North Bay OPP officers hit the jackpot last night when they set up their radar on Highway 11 in Powassan.

On February 25, at10 p.m., officers caught a vehicle speeding and conducted a traffic stop. 

After speaking to the occupants, officers began an investigation. As officers were arresting them, the driver fled on foot and was arrested after a short chase. 

A search of the vehicle found a number of suspected drugs: cocaine, heroin and cannabis; and a loaded handgun. 

Shamaree Wilson,  male and 28, of North York, is charged with :

  • Two counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a schedule I substance 
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order
  • Resist a peace officer 
  • Possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling

Celine Gonzalez, 22, of Toronto, is charged with:

  • Two counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of a schedule I substance
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • An occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession or weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon 
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm 
  • Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
  • Possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling 

Wilson and Gonzalez were brought to the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay today.
