OPP say no major incidents to report from Mattawa Voyageur Days

MATTAWA – This years Mattawa Voyageur Days have concluded and was operated in a fun and safe manner once again.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were kept busy with the few people who chose to break the laws.

As in the past, the OPP employed front-line officers, directed ATV patrols, marine units, the Highway Safety Division as well as several plain clothes Drug Enforcement officers to police the event grounds as well as the Town of Mattawa.

While there were no major incidents to report, the officers did lay 34 Liquor Licence Act charges ranging from underage drinking, drinking alcohol in public and public intoxication as well as 13 drug related charges for possession of a controlled substance.

There were 3 persons charged with Impaired Driving and 1 person issued a 3 day driving suspension for registering “warn” on the Roadside Screening Device.

There were also 3 complaints of assault resulting from alcohol encouraged disturbances downtown at the conclusion of the concerts on Friday and Saturday nights, as well as a few calls regarding trespassing.

In total, the police were kept busy by the few, while the many enjoyed a fantastic weekend in a controlled and peaceful manner.
