OPP: Highway 11 reopened following serious collisions

The investigation and removal of debris after two collisions involving a snowplow and two transports kept Highway 11 north of the city closed for approximately 13.5 hours

Highway 11 North has been reopened after it was closed for approximately 13.5 hours following two collisions involving a snowplow and two transports.

The investigation and removal of debris after two Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs) were involved in a head-on collision near Sand Dam Road in North Bay.

Within minutes of the collision, a second collision occurred when a snow plow drove over the significant debris on the highway.

On Wednesday, Nov. 22, just after midnight, members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, and District of Nipissing Paramedic Services responded. 

Paramedics transported two drivers and two passengers to the hospital. One of the drivers has suffered life-altering injuries. The driver of the snowplow was not injured.

The Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team also attended to assist with the investigation.

The Ontario Provincial Police is reporting that Highway 11 north is closed from Thibeault Hill all the way to Marten River. 

Sources tell BayToday the collision on the busy highway involves a snowplow and a transport. 

The accident occurred around 12:40 a.m. 

The accident has already caused long lineups of transports up Algonquin Avenue near Airport Road.
