One man injured as fire destroys Rancier Street home

'I know he sustained some burns and suffered from smoke inhalation'

One man was injured and a North Bay home received significant damage during a fire that broke out in a home on Rancier Street in the Graniteville area on the north end of North Bay on Wednesday morning.

Greg Saunders, deputy fire chief, says all three stations responded to the fire.

When they arrived around 9:45 a.m. Saunders says the flames were above the roof of the home.

He estimates it took the crews about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Saunders says the fire caused significant damage to both sides of the semi-detached home.

"The gentleman was doing some welding in his garage and unfortunately, there were a number of flammable liquids in the garage and they caught on fire quickly and accelerated the fire and as you see there is significant damage to the home," said Saunders.

Saunders confirmed it was the homeowner who was taken to the hospital.

"I know he sustained some burns and suffered from smoke inhalation," said Saunders.

Saunders believes the family will be displaced from the home for "a significant amount of time" due to the damage from the blaze.
