The Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) and Nipissing University are inviting the community to an online student centre grand opening this Friday, September 17th at 3:30 p.m.
The Student Union Building will be a defining feature on the approach to campus, welcoming students and visitors while symbolizing the importance of the student body at Nipissing University says a news release. It is situated at the corner of College Drive and Monastery Road,
“This has been a collaborative project between NUSU and Nipissing University and we are extremely proud that we are finally at the stage where we can open this building for student use,” said NUSU President, Joe McIntosh.
The nearly 32,000-square-foot multi-use facility features study nooks, an atrium, office space for NUSU, a student quad with outdoor seating, study rooms, a restaurant with an outdoor patio, and a nightclub. The restaurant and nightclub will not be opening until 2022.
The Centre was designed by North Bay firm Mitchell Jensen Architects.
The $13 million building will be opening to Nipissing University students, faculty, and staff on September 20th. Eventually, the space will be open to the public and the wider Lakers community.
“We would have liked to have held an in-person grand opening; however, we are hoping that our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and North Bay community join us in celebrating this milestone,” said McIntosh.
