The OPP reports there are numerous highway closures throughout Northeastern Ontario due to weather conditions and collisions.
Among the roads currently closed:
- HIghway 11 between North Bay at the Husky Truck Stop and Kapuskasing.
- HIghway 144 between Cartier and Timmins.
- HIghway 101 between Timmins and the Quebec border.
- Highway 65 between Highway 11 and the Quebec border.
- Highway 66 between Highway 11 and the Quebec border.
- Highway 101 between Highway 144 and the Quebec border.
- Highway 64 in both directions.
On February 27, at approximately 10:17 a.m., members of the Matheson Detachment of the OPP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Benoit Township.
The investigation has revealed that a multi-vehicle collision occurred and that one person is deceased.
The OPP Technical Collision Investigators have been deployed and are assisting in the investigation. Highway 11 is expected to be closed for several hours as a result of the collision. There is no detour.
The OPP is urging people to avoid any unnecessary travel with the deteriorating driving conditions. Currently, Highway 11 from New Liskeard to Cochrane is closed due to weather as well as Highway 101 from Timmins to the Quebec border.
The investigation is continuing and more information will be released as it becomes available.
