North Bay has a new fire chief to replace Grant Love.
He's Jason Whiteley and will be the new chief, effective Monday September 12.
Whiteley comes to North Bay from Woodstock Fire Department where he has been the Deputy Chief for the past year. Woodstock is just west of Hamilton.
Before that he was the Deputy Fire Chief for Norfolk County Fire and Rescue Services.
Whiteley has more than 27 years of fire service experience as well as management of fire operations, including business administration, emergency management and response, and fire prevention and education, says a news release from the City.
“I am very honoured to have the opportunity to join the City of North Bay and lead a strong department that provides a high level of emergency services to the community,” said Whiteley, who will also be a member of the City’s senior management team. “I’m looking forward to working closely with the team at Fire and Emergency Services, as well as contributing to the corporate strategic initiatives as part of the senior management team.”
Whiteley began his career with the City of Burlington Fire Department in 1989. He went on to work for several other municipalities including the Municipality of Markstay-Warren Fire Department, Norfolk County Fire and Rescue Services, and spent 16 years with the City of Mississauga.
In his new role, Whiteley will provide oversight and leadership to all administrative and business functions of the Fire and Emergency Services division including financial and operational plans, fire prevention and safety operations, fire suppression, and communications.
