'I don't even think they know the full extent of the problem'

Hundreds of North Bay area cell phone users were bewildered when their call would connect and they would hear an active conversation with someone else.

That was one major complaint about a bizarre cell phone disruption that appears to have been isolated to the North Bay area.

The problem was not isolated to one provider as both Bell and Rogers customers were feeling a similar frustration.

“This is a known issue which we are trying to resolve,” the Rogers help desk told one concerned local resident on Sunday.

“Apparently they are unaware of the source of the problem and that's what it taking it so long,” said North Bay resident Lee-Anne Geseron.

“They told me that it started on the 5th and generally it's a 48-72 hour time frame to resolve these issues.”

North Bay City Councillor Tanya Vrebosch has taken an active role in trying to figure out the problem on her own.

“They told me that they have no ETA,” stated Vrebosch.

“I don't even think they know the full extent of the problem.  They referred to Rogers cell to Bell landlines but it's happening between Roger cell to Rogers cell,” she said.

“This is happening Bell landline, Bell cell, Rogers and numerous other carriers.  My parents called yesterday to Bell and they are sending out a technician.”

The problem comes on the heels of a major issue in Atlantic Canada where an accidental cut of two major cables caused a cell service outage across the four Atlantic Canadian provinces on Friday.

Bell says two major cables were cut by third-party construction.

No word if the Atlantic problem had any impact or connection to the problems people in North Bay suffered from on the weekend and early into this week.
