Canadore President George Burton says a Swiss Space Systems destination map that shows a location in Northern Alberta as the Canadian destination for zero gravity flights, is not an indication that the S3 project in North Bay is dead.
“The locations on the S3 map have not been corrected for quite some time,” noted Jessica Charette, Communications and Public Relations, Office of the President at Canadore College.
“Despite the oversight, president George Burton assures that there isn't anything to be read into that misplaced dot on the map,” she said.
S3 has not replied to a pair of emails by BayToday.ca about the status of the project in North Bay.
Canadore College and S3 have been working together as the Canadian hub for Zero G Flights which were scheduled for the summer of 2016 which have been delayed but Canadore College President George Burton is optimistic the project will become a reality in the summer of 2017.
“Canadore continues to wait on word from S3 with regards to the timing for the drop testing program in 2017,” said Charette in an email to BayToday.ca.
Meanwhile the website Swiss Radio in English reports that the head of S3, Pascal Jaussi, has been released from hospital after being strangled, beaten and set on fire. Jaussi says he ‘still has a lot of anxiety.’
WRS reports that the 40-year-old also admitted that his company had been receiving threats before the attack and is facing financial difficulties, but said it had not filed for bankruptcy.
The violent attack occurred on August 26 by two unknown perpetrators. Jaussi was found badly burned next to his car, which was on fire in the Aumont forest.
He told the newspaper 24 Heures, that "It's hard. I am in pain. But I'll keep fighting. I do not know how long I'll stay here or if I will have to undergo transplants.”
In February the S3 project came under scrutiny when Canadore College announced the S3 Zero Gravity Flights campaign was postponed amid reports that the company was facing financial issues.

Charette says Canadore will keep North Bay residents updated when more information from S3 becomes available.
