City Solicitor Mike Burke swears in newest member of the North Bay Police Service Constable Bradley Reaume.

During the monthly board meeting at police headquarters on Princess Street Tuesday the North Bay Police Service (NBPS) welcomed a new officer to the family with an informal swearing in ceremony.

Constable Bradley Reaume, a graduate of Widdifield Secondary School, said it was good to be back home in North Bay.

“It means a lot to be back, I grew up North Bay and I’ve always wanted to be in North Bay.”

The new officer says following his graduation from the Police Foundations program at Canadore College in 1998, he started his career in security at Casino Windsor but would then join the Windsor Police Service in 2003.

Reaume says the death of fellow Windsor officer John Atkinson, who was gunned down in front of a Mac's convenience store May 5, 2006 while investigating a drug deal, had no bearing on his decision to come home.

“Unfortunately it happens, it happened here … you know the risks when they swear you in and you accept them,” he states.

“Hopefully it just doesn’t happen here.”

The new officer says he doesn’t anticipate to many challenges in his transition to the NBPS.

“There will be new people to meet and I will have to learn all the new streets, but I think the North Bay community is easier to deal with because they are my friends and family,” he says.

“I think it’s easier because I grew up with these folks.”
