A trio of athletes from the North Bay Legion Track and Field Club had solid performances at the Legion Canadian Nationals Track and Field meet which took place in Sherbrooke, Quebec over the weekend.
Heath Bradley led the way for the North Bay contingent, The 17-year-old going into grade 12 at Chippewa Secondary School finished in fourth place in the discus.
Bradley, who won a Great North U18 hockey championship with the U18 AAA Trappers on the ice this spring, saved his best throw for this meet, firing a discus 44.46m, which is his personal best and that toss edged out many top throwers in the country for his age level.
A clutch performer, Bradley thanks coach Brian Milne and the North Bay Legion Track Club for getting him this far.
Meantime, Carlie Popp, a grade 10 student at St .Joseph-Scollard Hall student finished 7th in the U16 Pole Vault and the talented athlete finished 16th overall in the 200 M Hurdles.
Liam Carruthers, heading into grade 12 at Chippewa Secondary School, tied his personal best run in the 200 M race running 23.04 seconds in a slightly negative wind. That helped Carruthers finish in 19th spot overall after being seeded 36th coming into the race.
