Following the devastating windstorm in July that toppled trees, flooded roadways and plunged the city into darkness, North Bay was not in the position to be judged in the annual Communities in Bloom (CiB) competition.
Community in Bloom judges Matt Rosen and Dave Hilton still came to the city, but it was decided that they would learn rather than evaluate. Their visit to North Bay allowed the duo to survey and analyse the damage, then share the information with other municipalities about planning and revising emergency preparedness plans in their communities.
In the end the judges approved of the city’s commitment and dedication and awarded the Bay 5 Blooms for Community Involvement.
The 12th National Communities in Bloom awards ceremony, honouring municipalities from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, were held Saturday in Brandon Manitoba with Ontario cities Stratford and Brampton winning top honours.
