North Bay cops get new style hats

'The members asked for something that was practical, useful, and reflected well on the service. The new hat offers protection from the sun and other weather'

Expect to see North Bay police officers sporting a new style of hat while on duty.

"The new hat is a 'ball-cap' type headdress," says spokesman John Schultz. "Members of the police service had requested a new and modern style of headdress to replace the traditional peak cap."

The new ball cap can be carried easily and quickly worn when required. The new hat is an addition to the officers’ official issued uniform.

“Our members asked for a new style of hat to be worn while on patrol.," Chief Scott Tod states "The old peak cap was difficult to keep clean and was too large to carry in the patrol vehicles so that it could be worn."

Officers will continue to wear the traditional peak cap when in official dress uniform while attending ceremonial events."

"The members asked for something that was practical, useful, and reflected well on the service. The new hat offers protection from the sun and other weather," explained Tod.

North Bay Police Association President Aaron Northrup agrees.

“Our members love the new caps. It’s lighter and more comfortable than the peak cap headgear, yet still supplies the environmental protection. It is another progressive move made by Chief Tod.”
