North Bay Police Chief confirms recent stabbings are not random acts

"We want to reassure the public that these are incidents in which the people are known to each other."

North Bay City Police Chief, Shawn Devine, wants to ease public concerns following two separate stabbing incidents that occurred in the city over the weekend. Police confirm two men and one woman were arrested following a stabbing incident Friday night at a First Avenue West home.  And just before midnight Sunday, police responded to a report that three men had been stabbed at a Fourth Avenue East residence. An arrest was made in that incident as well. In both cases, the injuries were said to be non-life threatening.

"We're not trying to diminish the injuries and the suffering that these people are going through but these are not random incidents" said Devine.  "These are incidents that are being investigated and we have people in custody."

Devine says officers work in general patrols throughout the city.

"But these aren't situations where people were walking down the street and randomly targeted. These are situations in which possibly a business deal has gone wrong, and they unfortunately decide to handle the situation using violence."

The police chief says the two recent attacks are unrelated.
