North Bay Blooms honoured as Garden of the week

North Bay Blooms Garden of the Week, while not actually a business garden, is still long overdue for an official recognition from North Bay Blooms.

Blooms Chair Tanya Vrebosch was delighted to present “Garden of the Week” to James Forsyth, who with his wife Adelaide,

Steve Lamb, and a number of other volunteers in the neighbourhood help tend to Sweetman’s Gardens. An oasis of flowers and greenery in the heart of the Copeland and McIntyre Streets area, the gardens were first planted by Murray Sweetman beside the old CN rail lines and later expanded when the train tracks were removed.

After Murray’s passing a few years ago, Adelaide who had gardened under Murray’s watchful eye for a number of years, stepped in with the help of neighbours and friends to care for the gardens and open them even more for the public to enjoy.

One of the highlights this summer is a shared gardening program with the North Bay Public Library that sees about 20 children drop by alternate weeks to learn about flowers and gardening.

Thank you to Adelaide, James and Steve for all of their hard work so we can all enjoy the community treasure that Sweetman’s Gardens are.
