No injuries in Franklin St. fire

'When we got here crews did find a slight haze of smoke in the house and they were able to dissipate it quickly'

A fire on Franklin St. at around 1:30 this afternoon forced the evacuation of a house, but no injuries are reported.

Traffic was blocked at 1133 Franklin while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

"When we got here crews did find a slight haze of smoke in the house and they were able to dissipate it quickly," stated Captain Joe Zimbalatti on the scene, who noted they got to the scene within three minutes of the call.

The fire damaged a majority of the home. One male resident was inside but escaped without injury thanks to the help of a visiting friend.

Christine Philion was stopping in at the residence to visit the tenant when she came in to find smoke in the home.

"I walked in and saw three dogs in the house and found one dog laying underneath the table barking, I could not see anything, the only thing I smelled was really bad smoke and we looked around but I immediately called 9-1-1," said Philion, who lives on Jocko Point.

The cause is thought to be careless smoking. No price tag yet on the damage to the Franklin Street home.
